Training and Seminars

Stage one - Personal Development Personal-Development.pdf

This is a stand-alone course which is a lively and varied programme, using experimental activities, games, discussions and a bit of interesting theory to give you lots of opportunities to find out more about yourself and build better communication and relationship building skills as well. This is a pre-requisite programme before formal entry into our Basic Youth and Community Counselling Skills Training, or other Youthline Programmes.

It is also great for helping you to learn more about working in a team, managing differences and conflict, building self-esteem and confidence and goal setting and trust. Personal Development groups run for 8 weeks with one full Saturday. This course is available for anyone 17+.

For more information contact supportcentre@youthline.co.nz.

Stage two - Basic youth and community counselling skills  BYCCS.pdf

This next stage of training focuses on developing relationship skills and learning basic counselling skills for our youth helpline, working in the hub, txt counselling, email, youth events and other first point of contact work. It runs for 12 weekly sessions, one evening a week from 7pm - 9.30pm and this includes one Saturday session.

Stage three - Marae Noho Weekend  Te-Ara-Taiohi.pdf

Youthline’s Bicultural Footsteps programme explores biculturalism through a Marae Wananga – or live in weekend at Te Puea Marae in Mangere. This is the third stage of Youthline’s training to work with young people. You can connect with your Youthline whanau and build cultural competency through learning, reflection, sharing, kai, waiata and fun. It may also be a space to reflect on where you have come from, your tupuna (ancestors); the taonga (treasures) they have given you and how you can use these to support taiohi (young people).
